Car Crash Myth
There is a car accident myth that insurance companies have caused the public to believe. They want the public to believe that small car accidents cause no injury. If there is barely any damage to the car, how can you be injured ? The design of the car affects how the person’s body will react, generally all things being equal less damage to the vehicle results in greater injury to the person. This is especially true in older vehicles. If the car absorbs the energy it will get damaged and save the body. If the opposite is true, then the persons body absorbs the energy and suffers greater injury. Pickup trucks designed to tug a lot of weigh are particularly dangerous, because the design allows the truck to absorb less energy than say a sedan. The energy is transferred to the body and results in painful whiplash injury even in smaller collisions of 5 to 10 mph. Occasionally the driver of a pickup will experience a fractured ankle as a result of the impact. Of course if you are a physicist you know this much better than myself and the majority of the people. |
